13th biennial conference of the Media Psychology Division [27.06.23]
Privacy protection and publication diversity in communication science – these are the topics with which the staff of the Department of Media Psychology take part in the biennial conference of the Media Psychology Division of the German Psychological Society (DGPs). The conference will take place between September 06 and September 08 in Luxembourg under the theme "Inclusion and Diversity in Media Psychology".
Jana Dombrowski and Alexandra Lux are going to present the results of their experiment on privacy behavior. They investigated various ways to encourage people to use the Tor browser, which allows them to surf the Internet anonymously. The study is part of the panel of the Journal of Media Psychology, which qualifies them for potential publication in this journal.
As a representative of the young members in the Media Psychology Department, Regine Frener will take over the leadership of the JMP panel as well as the organization of the entertainment program. The meeting also marks the end of her term of office; the new spokespersons will be announced at the section meeting.
In their study, Astrid Jansen and Sabine Trepte investigate whether a gender-specific publication and citation gap can be found in the DACH region. Although equally represented in the field, women receive less scientific recognition in the form of, for example, publications and citations (Trepte & Loths, 2020) – metrics that can influence later professional success. Previous research shows that gender parity in publication practice can be seen in North America (Trepte & Loths, 2020). Due to a lack of research, no reliable statements can currently be made for the DACH region.
Sabine Trepte will offer the popular PhD workshop together with Leonard Reinecke and German Neubaum. In this event, young scientists receive feedback on their dissertation projects, work on their presentation and writing skills, and get the opportunity to expand and strengthen their network.
We are looking forward to an exciting time in Luxembourg and thank the organizers for their great planning!
