Keynote speech by Prof. Trepte at the Hessischer Jugendring in Frankfurt [06.09.24]
On 05.09.2024, Prof. Dr. Sabine Trepte gave a lecture on “Social media: between disinformation, addiction and the promotion of identity and education”. The lecture was hosted by Hessischer Jugendring.
The lecture “Social Media – Torn Between Disinformation and Education” was part of the symposium on TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram - media literacy, self-determined media use and child protection. This took place on September 5 in Frankfurt am Main. The symposium was organized by the Hessian Youth Ring with the support of the Hessian Ministry of Labour, Integration, Youth and Social Affairs. The lecture was the first official item on the program. Prof. Dr. Sabine Trepte's lecture dealt with the challenges young people face when maneuvering through social media. Particularly difficult problems such as disinformation and problematic usage behavior, but also the positive possibility of promoting identity and education were examined in more detail. Sabine Trepte also gave an overview of the best-known creators and commented in particular on the influence of social media on materialism and consumerism.
