Do people know about privacy and data protection strategies? - Presentation at the CPDP 2014 in Brussels  [27.01.14]

Prof. Dr. Sabine Trepte presented first results of a current research project on online privacy literacy at the interdisciplinary conference "Computer, Privacy & Data Protection" (CPDP) in Brussels.

The privacy behavior of social media users often seems paradox. Although they express privacy concerns, they disclose personal and private information online. Empirical studies have shown that user have low levels of knowledge concerning privacy and data protection. Do low levels of privacy literacy explain user's paradoxical behavior? In her presentation, Prof. Dr. Sabine Trepte talked about first results of the current project "Towards the Online Privacy Literacy Scale".

The CPDP is taking place every year in Brussels. It gathers policy makers, academics, computer scientists, consultants, practitioners and activists from all over the world to exchange ideas and discuss emerging issues in information technology, privacy, data protection and law.
