Privacy and Digitization: Chapter in the Handbook Digitization has been published  [04.05.22]

The Handbook Digitization, edited by Stefan Roth and Hans Corsten, offers a comprehensive overview of the fundamentals and challenges of digitization in various economic sectors and functional areas. Regine Frener, Johanna Schäwel and Sabine Trepte were invited to write a chapter on privacy and digitization.

The term 'digitization' not only stands for complex technical systems that are changing the world of work in the long term, but also for the people who develop and use these systems. Based on fundamental theories and concepts of psychology, the chapter explores the behavior of users of digital and social media and discusses influencing factors such as privacy concerns, digital skills and individual characteristics.

Two current application examples are shown: political microtargeting and the use of health apps. In addition, technical and legal measures to protect individual privacy and the special role of online privacy competence are discussed.

Other colleagues from the University of Hohenheim are represented in the handbook: Marion Büttgen (Chair of Corporate Management) wrote the chapter 'Digital leadership in times of digital transformation and crisis'; Caroline Ruiner (Chair of Sociology) contributed 'Digitization and work organization - from the digital organization of work to the organization of digital work?'.
