Keynote by Dr. Trepte at Re:Publica 2025 [16.05.25]
The re:publica is calling? And on the topic of generational differences, no less? That's not something we need to be told twice. With a strong lineup of speakers, re:publica is kicking off once again this year. Among the keynote speakers is Professor Trepte, who will take the stage at Station Berlin to speak on social media and materialism. Her talk is titled: Social Media, Social Supermarkets.Do "Gen XYZ" really differ from each other? Where are terms like digital transformation and "Gen XYZ" just tired mantras or marketing gimmicks—and where is real change actually happening?
At #rp25, Dr. Trepte will debunk generational stereotypes and explore why we speak so stereotypically about age groups and media effects—and why, perhaps, we even need to.
With her talk, Sabine Trepte aims to paint a more nuanced picture of our society: because it's scientifically accurate, more compelling, and something we owe to everyone—from Gen Alpha to Boomers.
Still, one thing might just apply to all of us: issues like consumerism and materialism are especially relevant when it comes to social media and Generations X, Y, and Z—because social media increasingly operate as "social supermarkets." In this context, media literacy also means understanding how we pay the price in these digital environments.
