Project on Gender Diversity in Communication Science  [21.05.22]

Gender diversity and a fair representation of women in science are one of the most discussed issues in academia of our time. With our new research project “Gender Citation Diversity” we aim to contribute to this discussion by analyzing the current status of gender diversity in our field.

Together with Michael Scharkow and Laura Heintz from the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, we will investigate the diversity in visibility and citation in communication sciences. Importantly, we will consider not only scientific publications, but also conferences and social media. We hope that our results will allow for a more data-based debate and citation practices.

The joint project “Gender Citation Diversity” is supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research as part of their key theme “Innovative Frauen im Fokus” (Focus on Innovative Women).

We are very excited to welcome Maike Braun to our team who joins us from Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg where she is finishing her PhD on the framing of social inequalities. We also welcome Simon Kruschinski from Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz where he is finishing his PhD on the use and effects of political microtargeting.

A warm welcome, Maike and Simon!
