International Communication Association Conference in Paris [07.06.22]
Successful days come to an end - From May 26 to 30, the Media Psychology team attended the annual ICA conference. This year the conference theme was "One World, One Network?!".
In total, more than 4,000 communication scientists from all over the world participated in the hybrid ICA. More than 3,000 of them were on-site in the congress halls of the Palais des Congrès. The team was among the participants and had the opportunity to present four exciting papers (see here for a list of all papers).
After this year's ICA opened with an opening plenary on the conference theme, there were numerous opportunities to engage in conversations with other scholars, especially on the topics of privacy, microtargeting, and diversity. Our team's kick-off presentation was part of a DGPuK partner panel on political microtargeting during the 2021 federal election, moderated by Sabine Trepte. Regine Frener presented a recent study on privacy and political microtargeting.
Another highlight was the lively exchange on the topic of diversity in communication studies (see picture). Michael Scharkow and Sabine Trepte, gave an insight into the national diversity of participants at the annual ICA conferences. Together with the authors and the audience, opportunities and challenges of increasing diversity in the area of communication sciences were discussed.
Five days full of exciting events, inspiring conversations with colleagues, and cutting-edge research have now come to an end. We are looking forward to next year's ICA, which will take place in Toronto, Canada, at the end of May 2023 on the topic of "Reclaiming Authenticity in Communication".
