The Social Pattern of Political Knowledge [16.05.13]
In April 2013, the first of three surveys in the context of the dissertation project “the social-cognitive pattern of political learning” will be launched among 15 to 18 year old pupils in various German schools.Adolescents decreasingly use traditional mass media to acquire political knowledge. With the internet, as the main information medium, its perceived quality comes into question. Based on social processes, Josephine B. Schmitt examines the relation of political knowledge and subjective quality assessment of online news. Social-cognitive processes, which influence both the subjective quality assessment and news use among young adults, are the main point of interest in the study. The second and third survey will be conducted in October 2013 and March 2014.
